Help with "after the jump" stuff and my templates....

So if you don't already know, Blogger has available an "after the jump" feature (read about here) which basically means that you can highlight some of your blog entry and hide it behind a "read more..." link.  Personally, I don't like it much (it's annoying!) but some people like it and that's fine.

To use this feature, it's important that you either use Blogger in draft or by enabling it via the settings tab:

So now, when you go to write/edit a blog post, you'll see you have a more updated editor bar:

fancy!

And you'll see in the above grab I'm pointing to the "jump" function.  Now I'm not going to give you a massive spiel of instructions on how to use this but if you want to know more or if this is all new to you then go here to read the official Blogger info.  It's quite useful.

BUT.... if you're using a modified template then you're going to have to edit your html code to ensure this functionality shows up.

To do so:

1) Go to Layout > edit HTML tab in Blogger

2) Click Download Full Template (you should always do this in case something goes weird and you want to re-install your template).  OK, now we can get down to business:

3) Click on the "Expand Widget Templates" button. OK, now, down to business: click the Expand Widget Templates checkbox, and scan your HTML for the following snippet:

<data:post.body/>

Once you've located that code, paste the following snippet directly below it:

<b:if cond='data:post.hasJumpLink'>
<div class='jump-link'>
<a expr:href='data:post.url + "#more"'> <data:post.jumpText/>  </a>
</div>
</b:if>

 Then click SAVE and you're done.

Whilst I did test this and it works, I have no idea how to fix any issues regarding this, so please go to the Blogger help forums if you're having trouble.

LolliPopper - free XML Blogger template

Here is a delightful lollipop themed blog template (header image by Flóra at Flickr.com - CC 2.0) and I adore it! There are quite a few changeable elements to this design - the border colour (pink the example), the background (grey in the example) and the inner blog colour - below the header image (white in the example) are all changeable. So you can make this template as bright as you like! Enjoy!

Petite Stars - free Blogger design XML

The background in the header is a tiled pattern so I can't supply you with a blank header image for this one (but I intend on making it my future plan). Stay tuned for more designs soon - I plan to take into consideration all the ideas that my readers gave me a few posts ago.
In the mean time, here is a dark template with a star pattern in the header and footer.

Spotty Dotty - free XML blogger template - first for 2008

Happy new year everyone! Hope you've had a good holiday season!
I was supposed to fly back to Japan on Monday but it was pushed back to next week due to chickenpox! Yuck! They would have never allowed me to go through quarantine, looking as spotty as I do, so lucky for me I get 10 extra days of holidays! Hooray!

So here is a blogger template (XML) dedicated to my chickenpox: spotty dotty!

Remember to backup your widgets before installing!

Please note:
No, your own blog title is not going to be visible as I've removed it to make way for the Sylvia Plath quote. Sorry, that's the way I've made it. You're more than welcome to edit the image in photoshop/graphics editor though and erase what's there and put yr own thing in.

Same drill as always if you're installing this XML blogger template -- Back up your widgets/links etc as installing a new design may erase them. If you're installing this design over a "classic" (or html) blogger template, you may have to pick a generic blogger template first before uploading this.

a very ribbon xmas - free blogger design (xml)

Helloooo.... Christmas is coming soon and I wanted to make a design that wouldn't be too overwhelmingly Christmasy and one that you could possibly use all year 'round (incase you happen to be like me and like cute things). The beautiful ribbon Photshop brushes were made available by Hawksmont Universe. Awesome! How I love the fact that she's made the brushes available for use! Thank you x 1000000!

Enjoy....

Black Scrolly redone - free XML blogger template

(click for a live preview)

Note: If you have any widgets/data that you do not wish to lose in your sidebar please backup your data before uploading this - or you may lose them.

  • If you are currently using a template in "Classic Blogger"
    you may have to go back to your Blogger dashboard and click on TEMPLATE >> CUSTOMISE DESIGN for it to work.
    You will have to "upgrade your template" to upload the XML file.
    It may ask you to chose a generic template first, but after doing this you can go to the below TEMPLATE screen and "upload a template from a file on your hard drive" - and it will work.
  • If you are already using "new" Blogger:
    then you should be able to upload this straight away - again, please back up your current template if you have data in the sidebar, as previously mentioned.

Ok, this is my very first try at an XML (new) blogger template. It's pretty simple but that's ok, as it is my first try. This design is called "Oh La La" and it's available under Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License.

(click for a live preview)
  • Download the template: here (zip file)
  • See a live preview here
To make sure that this blog design looks the same as it does on the preview page, I recommend the following page elements layout - pay note to where the "Header" is (in top of sidebar), as any other positioning may make the layout slightly odd.

(click for a larger view)

Since this is my first XML layout (and is a modified version of "Dots Dark" - a generic Blogger template) I have no guarantees that this will work.

To install this design go to TEMPLATE >> EDIT HTML >> UPLOAD A FILE FROM YOUR HARD DRIVE

Upload the XML file (within the zipped file) and upload it. Preview first of course.

If you use it, or try it, let me know if it works OK.
