Comment systems for Blogger

I have seen lots of people complaining that the comment system of Blogger is crappy and I do tend to agree - not only is it quite simplistic, you cannot leave "threaded" comments (this is important when you want to interact with your readers).

As far as I can see it, the four choices when dealing with Blogger comments are:

  1. Keep generic Blogger comments + wait for them to implement something good
  2. Use Facebook comments (good tutorial here)
  3. Disqus
  4. Intense Debate
I have used Disqus and am currently using Intense Debate on my personal blog.  Everyone complains about Disqus (not exactly sure why, I must admit it has always behaved for me) and Intense Debate has so far worked out well and is quite adaptable.

Facebook.... well, I am not sure how I feel about Facebook comments.  I dont think so.

Disqus is nice because you can back up your comments - so if you ever want to remove Disqus, your comments will be hiding underneath.  Intense Debate, as far as my research tells me, does not offer this.

So, what do you think?  What do you use?

PS: I am not really going to even give Echo a mention.  Whilst they look like a pretty rad comment system, I don't like their exclusivity. They told me that I needed over 1 million hits a month and quite a hefty yearly fee (I am talking more than just a few thousand dollars here).

UM NO. JUST NO.

  1. I'm curious to see what people have to say, as well. I'd like to switch from Blogger comments sometime soon and have been really confused about which system I should choose.

  2. Michelle - I honestly believe that Blogger aren't too far from releasing something that will be better (but time flies and it will probably be years before we see this?)

  4. I'm using Disqus, and I had intense debate and got so tired of their lame design, the only thing I don't like about Disqus is people that aren't signed up for it get annoyed to put in their information, but I am willing to sacrifice a few comments for a better system that I like.

  7. I'm holding out for something better from Blogger. If I don't switch to self-hosted first. A threaded reply function seems so basic. They keep coming out with these kind of silly upgrades (new ways to view your posts via pictures, etc) and missing some pretty basic stuff. Good post. Thanks!

  11. Although the high-tech faucets cut daily water consumption by well over half, Johns Hopkins researchers identified Legionella growing in 50 percent of cultured water samples from 20 electronic-eye faucets in or near patient rooms on three different inpatient units, but in only 15 percent of water cultures from 20 traditional, manual faucets in the same patient care areas. Weekly water culture results also showed half the amount of bacterial growth of any kind in the manual faucets than in the electronic models.
